KOMP Repository (Knockout Mouse Project) KOMP Knock Out Knockout Mouse Mice
KOMP Sharing Plan

KOMP is pleased to offer the research community an opportunity to share KOMP mice made in your laboratory from ES cells and chimeras purchased from the KOMP Repository.

Simply put, the KOMP Sharing Plan pays you for mice! It works like this: send the KOMP Repository at least 2 germline-confirmed, heterozygous KOMP mutant male mice on a congenic C57BL/6N genetic background within 1 year of purchase, and you will receive an immediate cash refund of 50% the cost of purchasing ES cells...and $1000 refund of the cost of microinjection!

Using the KOMP Sharing Plan not only puts money back into your lab, but it also fulfills your obligations under the NIH Sharing Policy. And, it helps out the KOMP Program too, because the mice you send back to the KOMP Repository will be cryopreserved, archived for safety and security, and made available for distribution to the research community.

Even after reading the 'fine print' (see below), we still think you'll find the KOMP Sharing Plan a pretty good deal, and pretty easy to pull off. Just follow the link below to get started!

FINE PRINT: The KOMP Sharing Plan is designed for scientists to send KOMP mice they've created back to the KOMP Repository for cryo-archiving, maintenance, and distribution from the KOMP catalog, and get cash back for their research laboratory! There are two ways to get refunds under the KOMP Sharing Plan, depending on what you've purchased from the KOMP Repository:

ES Cells: If you obtained ES cells from the KOMP Repository and made mice, we'll refund to your laboratory 50% of the purchase price of ES cells if you send us at least 2 germline-confirmed, heterozygous mutant male mice on a congenic C57BL/6N genetic background within 1 year of purchase and receiving those ES cells.
Examples:
  • Purchase a single clone for $648...you get $324 back!
  • Purchase premium ES cell package for $2,128...you get $1064 back!
Chimeras: If you obtained chimeras made by the KOMP Repository, we'll refund to your laboratory $1000 of the cost of microinjection if you send us at least 2 germline-confirmed, heterozygous mutant male mice on a congenic C57BL/6N genetic background within 1 year of purchase and receiving those chimeras.
Example:
  • Purchase a microinjection ($6,323) of a single clone ($648)...get $1324 back! (that's $1000 for the microinjection and 50% ($324) of the price of the ES cell!)

Either way you do it, it's a great deal for your laboratory, and a great way to fulfill your NIH-mandated sharing requirements. Even if you don't meet the requirements for the refund it's a great chance to give back to the global scientific community!

and even FINER PRINT--the following criteria and conditions must be met to be eligible for the KOMP Sharing Plan:
  • Complete fully and submit online a mouse submission form to the KOMP Repository.
  • Complete and submit online a donor MTA.
  • The mutant mice you submit must be on a pure C57BL/6N background...not C57BL/6J!
  • You must provide a working, verified, gene-specific PCR genotyping protocol.
  • Mice must be sent within 1 year of receipt of either ES cells or chimeras.
  • Mice that cannot be genotype-confirmed at the KOMP Repository will not be accepted.
  • Sender is responsible for all shipping, handling, and delivery fees to Repository.
  • Refund will be made to the investigator's institutional account used for original purchase.
  • Refunds are for ES cell clones and/or microninjection only...no other products or services.
  • The KOMP Repository reserves the right to rescind this offer at any time.
  • This offer is valid only to academic (not-for-profit) users (not commercial purchasers)

OK, I'm ready to submit mice!
